Samobor is a small town filled with beautiful medieval architecture, local bakeries and bars lining the town square and of course, home to the famous cream cake, or kremšnita, which includes a puff pastry base and custard cream.

We stopped in Samobor on our way from Zagreb to Ljubljana, Slovenia. We had a pleasant time walking along the Gradna River and enjoying the sights and ambience of the town.
We started our walk in Samobor by stopping along the Gradna River for drinks at Caffe Bar Gradna.

Next we walked by the Prica Galerija, founded with the donation of the valuable collection of paintings and sculptures by the academician Zlatko Prica to Samobor.

Soon after the Prica Galerija, we saw a statue of the unknown soldier.

As we headed to the main square, we saw the Church of St. Anastasia on our left.

We then entered the town’s main square, King Tomislav Square.

In the center of the square is a public fountain, with dragon head water pumps.

As we exited the main square, we crossed over an Old Bridge.

On the other side of the Old Bridge is the Samobor Museum. This museum is surrounded by statues. In front of the museum is a statue of Ivica Sudnik. Ivica Sudnik is the Samobor Museum founder, photographer and cultural worker. He shot numerous photos of Samobor and surroundings, and wrote a lot of articles, prose, historical insights about Samobor.

In addition to the Ivica Sudnik statue, there are three busts surrounding Samobor Museum.
Stanko Vraz was a poet, storyteller, collector of folk songs, literary critic, travel writer, translator and writer of articles on language and folk customs.

Ferdo Livadić composed numerous art songs in Croatian, Slovenian, and German, as well as marches, dances and scherzi for piano.

Kosta Apostolov Solev, primarily known by his pen name Kočo Racin, was a Macedonian poet, writer and communist who is considered a founder of modern Macedonian literature. He is also regarded as a founder of modern Macedonian poetry.

We decided to eat dinner at a nearby restaurant, Bistro Kovačnica. They have a nice outdoor courtyard covered in grapevines, and we shared a meat plate (more than enough food to three people, let alone two).

And we capped off our visit with a taste of Samobor’s famous cake, the kremšnita.
