ISLAND OF MAUI:
We flew to Kahului Airport in Maui from Oakland, California with camping gear and rented a car to explore the road to Hanna. The road was winding but beautiful, with waterfalls on the way.

Our first night we camped and swam at H.A. Baldwin Beach Park.

The next day we explored the Keanae Peninsula.

We hiked about 1-3/4 miles beyond Kakipi Gulch to reach Twin Falls, a swimming hole and waterfalls.

We also visited the Keanae Arboretum, with native flora and hiking trails.

We continued on the Hana Road, seeing many villages along the way.

We camped at Waianapana State Park, where we explored the Waianapana Caves, lava tubes under rocks.

Upon reaching Hana Town, we hiked to see Fagan’s Cross, a large, volcanic stone cross created in 1960 in memory of San Francisco-native Paul Irving Fagan, Sr., who, before dying in 1960, established cattle farming in Hana.

We went snorkeling in Hana Bay.

Back in Lahaina, we stayed at the historic Pioneer Inn.

From Lahaina, we went south for more swimming, snorkeling, and camping.

The highlight of our trip was the Sunrise Bike Ride from the top of Haleakala Volcano down to sea level.
