September 5, 2026:
We drove over 3 1/2 hours from Rovinj to Plitvice Lakes National Park. Since we entered the park in late afternoon, we only had time to visit the Lower Lakes (we’ll have to come back to Croatia to see the Upper Lakes).

We started at Entrance 1 with a postcard view over the Lower Lakes.

Then we descended down a path and steps to Lake Kaluđerovac.

We walked along the wooden boardwalk that went of the end of Lake Kaluđerovac.
Walking Across the End of Lake Kaluđerovac
Lake Kaluđerovac flows into Novakovića Brod Lake. The water was remarkably clear.

Then we climbed down some steps to see the Big Waterfall (Veliki Slap).

We climbed back up the steps and started walking along the back of Kaluđerovac Lake.

We walked along this lake until we came to another lake, Milanovac Lake. We saw several waterfalls come off this lake.

We reached a souvenir stand, WCs, an ice cream bar shop, and a cafe. We then took an electric boat across Kozjak Lake.

We then walked up a steep hill to catch Shuttle Bus #2 back to Entrance 1. Fortunately, we were able to get assistance with a private car, which took us all back to our car.
Our Accommodation
Our accommodation was at the Antemurale Hotel, Rastovača (right next to Entrance 1). We had a lovely dinner out on the patio at the hotel’s restaurant.
